PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The project involved the KiwiRail repairs to the road and rail infrastructure between Blenheim and Christchurch on the Man North Line route performed by the North Canterbury Transport Infrastructure Recovery alliance (NCTIR).

Duties included the repair estimates to damaged bridges, culverts, rail lines and tunnels. Due to the nature of the works, slip removal, rock stabilization as well as repair and replacement of concrete sea walls were required and added a challenging factor to the project.

A challenge encountered on the project was the requirement to use sluicing to assist with slip removal.

This was due to the continuous changing conditions at the project location requiring design changes.

The project has involved the interrogation of reports for approximately 150 projects and producing cost estimates based on that information that spanned approximately 179Km of railway lines.
