Cuesko was engaged by Health New Zealand to provide tender analysis and post-contract cost administration services under an open book “cost plus” contract with the main contractor.
The project involved the construction of a domestic-scale, single-unit residential building within the Kaitaia Hospital campus. The facility accommodates up to six residents, with oversight provided by a staff member. Its purpose is to offer temporary accommodation for low-risk mental health patients, providing a supportive environment for short-term “time out” stays or during periods of housing instability.
As residents are responsible for their own cooking and cleaning, the building was designed to closely replicate a typical domestic dwelling. The primary distinction from a standard residential home is the incorporation of anti-ligature fittings throughout, including door hardware, windows, light fittings, sanitary fittings, fire detection systems, and built-in beds and bedroom fittings.
The contract was completed on budget, with minimal variations totaling approximately 5% of the original contract value.
